Brief info about Vinted

Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:

Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.

Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.

Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.

Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people. Our backers include Accel, EQT Growth, Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sprints, and TPG.

Information about the position

We are looking for a technically minded Engineering Manager to lead our newly formed Verifications Team within the Vinted Pay domain. This team was established to own the core integration capability layer for every third-party verification provider and in-house validation rail across Vinted Pay—including biometric Identity Verification (IDV), bank verifications (VoP/CoP), eKYC, eID, and document automation.

Your team of engineers is tasked with building out and scaling our greenfield verifications engine, ensuring high performance, fault tolerance, and seamless "Smart Switching" between primary and secondary providers to back our massive user scaling goals. As an EM, you will split your focus between driving robust integration architectures, managing critical external vendors, and championing the professional growth of your people. You will report to the Director of Engineering and work hand-in-hand with Product, Compliance, and Data peers.

In this position, you’ll

    • People Leadership: Lead, coach, and grow a talented team of engineers. Build and maintain a team culture based on trust, commitment, psychological safety, and clear accountability. Conduct ongoing feedback, performance, and compensation reviews.
    • Provider Redundancy & Abstraction: Drive the architectural extraction and abstraction of critical KYC/AML verification flows. Lead the team in ensuring every core verification capability has a reliable multi-provider setup with automated smart-switching capabilities.
    • High-Throughput Integration Scaling: Stay exceptionally close to the technical design of verifications engine to handle tight latencies and non-trivial technical scaling—such as preparing systems to comfortably execute high volumes of concurrent requests per second (RPS) for verification checkpoints.
    • Deep Third-Party Vendor Management: Collaborate closely with external third-party providers and vendors to design, implement, and maintain highly stable, resilient integrations. Own the technical relationships, evaluate partner APIs, and proactively monitor partner SLAs to eliminate external service dependencies as points of failure.
    • Product Discovery & Sequencing: Partner closely with Product Managers to drive early-stage discovery, mapping out the technical sequencing required for future product and validation development.
    • Delivery & Roadmap Ownership: Drive the team's delivery against the product roadmap, lead agile execution, and support quarterly planning. Ensure timely, effective execution while taking full ownership when things go wrong.
    • Change Leadership: Remain adaptable and resilient in fast-moving, high-growth environments with shifting priorities; “embracing uncertainty” is a core part of your leadership toolkit.

About you

    • Proven Leadership: Robust experience leading teams and driving cross-department software initiatives in a fast-paced product environment.
    • Engineering Foundations: Background in distributed backend systems (ideally handling external API structures, webhook payloads, and cross-service async communication). You are comfortable guiding technical decision-making and facilitating architectural conversations.
    • People-First Mindset: Highly skilled at building teams, hiring new talent, setting clear scope, and managing priorities to keep the team focused and motivated.
    • Product & Business Sense: A strong product mindset with the ability to connect engineering outcomes and backend reliability directly to customer onboarding experiences and regulatory compliance.
    • Excellent Communicator & Vendor Coordinator: Outstanding stakeholder management skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas clearly and confidently across internal teams (Product, Compliance, Legal) and external global technology providers.
