Job Summary

As the Engineering Manager at Vanilla, you will lead a dynamic team of engineers, provide technical direction, foster collaboration across various teams within the company and support the professional growth of your team members. This role demands a leader with a solid technical foundation, outstanding leadership abilities, and a passion for nurturing innovation in a fast-paced, start-up environment.

This role is a remote position, you must be based out of one of the following states: CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, ID, IL, KY, MA, ME, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, SD, TX, UT, VA, WA, WA D.C.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and product leadership guiding your team in delivering high-quality, innovative products by setting clear goals, ensuring alignment with company objectives, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement

  • Lead frontend and backend development teams and their projects

  • Hire talented engineers from various backgrounds, ensuring an inclusive work environment that encourages different perspectives and ideas

  • Support the career development of your team members through mentorship, training, and growth opportunities.

  • Work cross functionally with other departments (e.g., product management, design, marketing, sales, customer support) to ensure alignment and support for engineering initiatives

  • Implement metrics and KPIs to track and improve engineering performance and product quality

  • Partner with Legal and Security to ensure compliance with security regulations

  • Coordinate with external stakeholders for new integrations and tools

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 5+ years of experience as an engineering manager

  • Experience at SaaS start up or scaling companies is preferred

  • Demonstrated track record of designing, building, and operating software products and great user experiences

  • Enjoy dealing with ambiguity and working independently, driving impact across teams

  • Strong written and interpersonal skills
