Where we work
Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye. This is a remote position located in Brazil.
About your skills

Accounting Expertise: You have a strong background in international accounting and financial operations, particularly within the LATAM region. Your expertise includes general ledger, accounts receivable (billing and collections), regulatory compliance, statutory audits, and all elements of local entity accounting operations, including accounts payable and payroll operations. You have a strong working knowledge of ASC 606 and IFRS 15, and can interpret and apply complex revenue recognition rules to support commercial contract negotiations and ensure compliant accounting treatment."

About this role
As the Director, LATAM Controller, you will oversee all accounting operations in the LATAM region, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and compliance with local regulations. This is a broad role combining hands-on accounting oversight with strategic commercial support in a fast-growing SaaS environment. This pivotal role will require a proactive leader to tackle the complexities of operating across multiple markets, drive best practices, and foster collaboration with key stakeholders in our enterprise SaaS and D2C consumer business segments. In this capacity, you will play a key role in supporting the company's international growth in the LATAM region while ensuring financial integrity in all accounting activities.
What you’ll be doing

Manage all international accounting operations in the LATAM region, with responsibility for the general ledger, accounts receivable (billing and collections), regional tax filings, and compliance/audit processes.

Manage, oversee, and execute regional expansion initiatives, including transforming regional subsidiaries from cost-plus support entity structures into revenue-generating, limited-risk distributor (LRD) structures in strategic regional markets, including Brazil.

Partner with Sales, Legal, and Revenue Accounting teams to review customer contracts and ensure proper application of revenue recognition standards (ASC 606 / IFRS 15).

Support accounts payable and payroll functions across multiple LATAM countries (including Brazil and Mexico), ensuring timely and accurate processing.

Lead compliance with Brazilian tax regulations (including ICMS, PIS/COFINS, ISS), manage tax filings, and ensure accuracy in issuance and reporting of nota fiscal invoicing.

Establish and refine processes and policies to support operational efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.

Oversee the successful execution of statutory audits within the LATAM region, ensuring full compliance and transparency.

Drive system and tools adoption to continuously improve and streamline accounting processes across the region, reducing manual overhead and driving efficiency.
What you’ll have
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA/CPA preferred).

10+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with substantial exposure to LATAM markets, including Brazil and Mexico.

Demonstrable experience in leading and managing international accounting teams.

In-depth experience with Brazilian direct and indirect taxes and the nota fiscal invoicing system, including SPED and eSocial reporting frameworks.

Strong knowledge of LATAM-specific accounting standards and compliance requirements, especially in Brazil.

Proficiency in Netsuite is desired

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across cultural and functional boundaries.

Proven ability to manage complex audits and compliance matters in an international setting.

Strong problem-solving skills and a track record of process improvement and innovation in accounting operations.
