Position Summary
This is a high-impact opportunity to be a senior DevOps engineer in a fast-growing startup, based in Prophecy’s India engineering center. You will own and evolve the foundations that keep our engineering org fast, secure, and cost-efficient at scale — spanning cloud cost management, security DevOps, and CI/CD and engineering operations. You will work with a team of dynamic engineers who take pride in solving complex problems, and you will have the autonomy to set direction in your areas of ownership.
The Impact You Will Have
Cloud cost (FinOps)
- Own and evolve our cloud cost optimization program across AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks, Snowflake and Bigquery building on the programmatic monitoring and controls
- Analyze billing, asset-inventory, and utilization data across departments to identify wasteful spend and provide actionable insights to optimize it.
- Develop and maintain cost optimization strategies, roadmaps, and forecasting models
- Partner with engineering teams to design cost-efficient architectures without compromising scalability or reliability.
- Build and maintain automation for infrastructure provisioning, scaling, and cost control.
Security DevOps
- Partner with engineering and security to drive our security-hardening program across workstreams such as identity & access governance, secrets & credential lifecycle, cloud access, and CI/CD hardening.
- Implement and automate guardrails: secrets management, least-privilege access, credential rotation, and policy-as-code.
- Build security into our pipelines and infrastructure (SAST/DAST, dependency and image scanning, IaC scanning) and remediate findings with the right owners.
- Improve monitoring, detection, and audit logging across our cloud, source control, and third-party platforms.
- Track hardening items to closure and help establish durable processes so the posture holds over time.
Engineering-ops automation
- Drive CI/CD stability across our core repos — keeping master builds green, reducing flaky tests, and enforcing healthy merge processes (e.g. controlled force-merge policies with clear custodianship and follow-up).
- Build observability into our build and test systems — dashboards on build health, failure categories, force merges, and test reliability — to make problems visible and drive them down.
- Identify and quarantine, fix, or retire flaky and low-value tests in partnership with repo owners.
- Develop internal tools and automation to improve developer productivity (CI/CD pipelines, observability, local dev environments, release tooling, etc.).
- Identify recurring engineering-ops toil and automate it away.
- Stay current with modern DevOps, FinOps, security, and developer-productivity tooling to continuously improve our processes.
What You’ll Need
- 5–10 years of overall systems/infrastructure engineering experience, including hands-on work building and operating infrastructure platform-as-a-service capabilities.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of cloud services (compute, storage, networking, databases, containers) across at least one major cloud; familiarity with AWS, Azure, and GCP is a plus.
- Proven experience with cloud cost optimization (FinOps) — measuring, monitoring, and driving down spend.
- Solid grounding in security DevOps — secrets management, IAM/least-privilege, credential lifecycle, and securing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience driving CI/CD stability and reliability (build health, flaky-test management, pipeline tooling) with systems like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (Go, Python, Bash/Shell, or similar).
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, etc.).
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, ELK, etc.).
- Background working in modern tech companies/startups focused on scaling, security, and developer productivity.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance cost, security, performance, and developer needs.
- Strong desire to work in a not-well-structured, fast-moving startup environment.
- B Tech or above degree in CS or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Go.
- Experience with policy-as-code and pipeline security tooling (SAST/DAST, dependency/image/IaC scanning).
- Full-stack infrastructure knowledge.
- Good understanding of computer architecture, networking, and CS fundamentals.
- Proficiency in Linux.
- Ability to assess new technologies and make pragmatic choices that help guide us towards a long-term vision.
