The Opportunity
The Client Distribution team owns the infrastructure that releases, delivers, and updates every Postman client application—including the Desktop App, Web App, Desktop Agent, and CLI—across all supported operating systems.
Our platform is the critical last mile between a merged pull request and millions of users receiving a reliable update. We build and operate the backend systems, release pipelines, artifact distribution services, rollout mechanisms, and developer tooling that enable hundreds of engineers to ship software safely and efficiently.
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys building scalable backend services, modern deployment platforms, and developer infrastructure while improving the reliability and speed of software delivery.
This is an opportunity to work on the platform that powers software delivery across every Postman client application. You'll solve challenging distributed systems problems, build infrastructure used by engineering teams every day, and directly impact how millions of developers receive updates around the world.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and operate backend services responsible for artifact hosting, routing, versioning, and secure client distribution.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines to reduce the time from code merge to production rollout through automation and optimized release workflows.
- Develop and enhance rollout strategies, staged deployments, feature rollouts, and rollback mechanisms to enable safe software releases.
- Build internal tooling and dashboards that improve release visibility, operational efficiency, and developer productivity.
- Drive modernization of legacy distribution systems by migrating to scalable, cloud-native services and architectures.
- Develop reusable SDKs, deployment actions, and shared tooling that simplify integration across multiple Postman client applications.
- Build observability into the release platform through metrics, dashboards, logging, and release analytics to improve system reliability.
- Collaborate closely with Client Platform, Infrastructure, Developer Experience, and Release Engineering teams to improve the software delivery lifecycle.
- Participate in architectural discussions, code reviews, and operational improvements to maintain a high engineering bar.
About You
- 5+ years of experience building and operating scalable backend services in production.
- Strong experience designing REST APIs and distributed backend systems.
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript or Node.js, with solid software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, CloudFront, API Gateway, or similar cloud technologies.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD systems, preferably GitHub Actions or equivalent automation platforms.
- Experience building internal developer platforms, deployment tooling, or engineering productivity solutions.
- Familiarity with CDN architectures, artifact management, or software distribution platforms.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and operational ownership skills.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative engineering mindset.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
- Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
- Exposure to release engineering, deployment automation, or software delivery platforms.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CDK, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with Electron application packaging and distribution.
- Exposure to Model Context Protocol (MCP) or AI-powered developer tooling.
- Experience building reusable internal libraries or developer tooling.
What Success Looks Like
- Release pipelines become faster, more reliable, and highly automated.
- Millions of users receive client updates seamlessly with minimal operational overhead.
- Internal engineering teams can ship software more confidently through improved tooling and observability.
- Distribution systems become simpler, more scalable, and easier to maintain.
- Engineering productivity improves through reusable platforms, automation, and a strong focus on developer experience.
