Position Overview: This Laboratory Manager role serves as Pictor Labs’ on site leader for our Salt Lake City facility with primary responsibility for building out the new facility and bringing it to full operational capacity. She/he will organize and launch CLIA laboratory operations of a histopathology and digital pathology laboratory as well as research initiatives, ensure efficient workflow management, manage and hire staff, and ensure creation of systems that provide quality control and regulatory compliance. This role involves functions of opening a new laboratory (coordination with construction company / building management, purchasing and installing equipment / reagents, hiring staff) and overseeing day-to-day laboratory activities once operating. She/he must also coordinate tasks with Laboratory Medical Director, cross-functional teams, and customers, or patients, planning and executing business operations of the facility, as well as be available to perform needed sample preparation, testing, scanning, and analysis, and manage resource inventory to support our virtual staining technology development, validation, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
Laboratory Build Out Planning and Execution
* Coordinate with construction company and building management to ensure appropriate facility completion.
* Work with local, regulatory, and accrediting agencies to ensure proper compliance and documentation for new facility.
* Assist in equipment selection, installation, validation, and SOP development / training
* Assure compliance with safety regulation and laboratory work practices.
* Hire staff and set up processes for daily operations.

Lab Operations Management
* Oversee daily laboratory and facility operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with protocols, and all applicable standards, regulations, and laws for a clinical and research laboratory.
* Optimize histology and digital pathology workflows to assure efficiency, accuracy and turnaround time goals.
* Implement and maintain laboratory quality management systems aligned with regulatory and accrediting agency’s requirements.
* Coordinate workflow between histology, scanning, and data analysis teams to enable product development and clinical delivery of services.
* Enact procedures under direction of Laboratory Medical Director to deliver histopathology and digital pathology (virtual staining) for use in both clinical and research setting.
* Troubleshoot operational issues and implement process improvements.
* Collaborate with the Chief of Staff and HR at Pictor Labs headquarters for appropriate management of all staff and operations at Salt Lake City facility.
* Collaborate with the IT team for appropriate management of the computer servers.
* Ensure lab facilities and equipment are properly maintained.
* Assist with inventory management including accessing, documentation, and disposition of all reagents, tissues, and customer materials in support of clinical and research activities.

Team Supervision
* Directly recruit and supervise laboratory staff, including Histotechnologists and Scanning Technicians and other personnel.
* Conduct training on new procedures and protocols.
* Perform regular performance evaluations.
* Identify skill development needs and provide growth opportunities.
* Foster a culture of quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Regulatory & Quality Support
* Support FDA submission preparation by ensuring documentation accuracy and completeness.
* Maintain laboratory operations in compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and laws.
* Maintain accurate documentation, SOPs, and training records as required by accrediting agencies.
* Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits, and proficiency testing.
* Contribute to the development of quality metrics and monitoring systems.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, biology, or related field; Master's preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in laboratory management, preferably in pathology or histology settings to include people management. Digital pathology experience preferred.
* Ability to meet CLIA qualifications for Laboratory Manager (42 CFR 493.1407)
* Strong experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements for obtaining and maintaining laboratory operations (CLIA, CAP, FDA).
* Experience with digital pathology workflows and systems.
* Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities.
* Experience with quality management systems and process improvement methodologies.
* Knowledge of histology techniques and microscopy preferred.
