Introduction
As a part of Optimizely’s Global Communications team, the Sr. Manager for PR and Social will establish the strategy and execution plan for global PR initiatives and organic social media content in support of the central content and campaign strategy, corporate announcements, and product and customer developments. This person will work with our agency partners across the globe to drive regular tier one press coverage and compelling social media content to increase share of voice, brand reputation, and social followership. As a highly visible role with internal executive stakeholders, you will need to have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines. We are looking for a results-oriented person who’s passionate about unearthing unique ways to bring stories to life through digital channels and media relationships.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Head of Global Communications and peers to develop the vision and strategy for maximizing Optimizely’s press coverage and social media presence
- As a company that operates in many countries across the world, you will be required to interact with agencies and peers across several time zones to help develop strategic pitch angles, write press releases and report on results monthly
- Field inbound requests for articles, bylines, interviews or quotes (which can require ghostwriting for spokespeople)
- Develop creative ways to insert customer stories into our press outreach and coverage
- Effectively prepare executives and spokespeople for press interactions, speaking opportunities, etc.
- Distribute press coverage via social and employee advocacy channels to expand reach
- Be a champion for brand integrity, consistency and tone across PR and social channels
- Deepen our relationships with tier one business and trade press to increase brand share of voice
- Develop interesting and innovative ways to bring brand edge and timeliness to Optimizely’s social presence through purpose-built social content
- Manage enterprise social platform (Hootsuite) and publish social calendar, ensuring consistent cadence of content across social platforms to resonate with target buyers and influencers
- Own, track and report key PR and social metrics to internal stakeholders and executives on a regular basis
- Represent Optimizely by attending events as necessary
- Able to travel when required (<25%)
Knowledge and Experience
- 8+ years of marketing or communications experience with proven track record of driving PR results and increasing social following
- Excellent editorial copywriting and verbal skills
- Proven experience synthesizing complex information and developing a compelling story to generate customer and media interest
- Highly motivated self-starter who thrives on working in a complex and rapidly evolving business and has a passion for PR, content and social media
- Comprehensive knowledge of an integrated marketing model, paid/owned/earned content relationship, marketing channels, and latest digital and social platforms and tools
- Exceptional communication and people skills to engage, collaborate and align with internal stakeholders, customers, press and agency partners
- Personal press and media relationships a huge plus
- Experience negotiating contracts and understanding how to work with PR, content and social media agencies
- Strong problem solving and prioritization skills
- Creative thinker with ability to both strategize and execute on ideas
- Must be a team player, demonstrated high performer and have a willingness to take initiative
- Experience managing people and budgets a plus
- Digital experience or B2B SaaS technology experience a major plus
Education
- Bachelor's or master’s degree required with a preferred emphasis in marketing, journalism, or communications
- Education or equivalent experience in marketing
