Risk & Fund Reporting Manager
Moonfare
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
Join the team rewriting the rules in private markets.
Moonfare delivers what few others can: the highly sought-after funds and hidden-gem investments that go beyond what most private banks offer. Every opportunity is subjected to a ruthless vetting process; the bar is unforgivingly high. The result? Institutional-quality portfolios for investors who demand more.
Our team combines finance veterans with talent from tech, consulting, law and industries you'd never expect. Headquartered in Berlin, we operate from eight offices across Europe, the US and Asia.
If you're ready to build what's next in private markets, let's talk.
Risk & Fund Reporting Manager
As Risk & Fund Reporting Manager, you will own the Risk Management function of Moonfare's sub-threshold AIFM in Luxembourg, the technical oversight of our Fund Administrator, and the end-to-end production of regulatory and fund reporting. Reporting directly to the Managing Director Luxembourg and partnering closely with the Portfolio Manager, the Moonfare Investment Team, and the Fund Operations Services team, this is an individual contributor role with control function authority.
You will be the technical owner of fund data integrity across the Moonfare range, independently verifying the work of our Fund Administrator and ensuring the AIFM retains full ownership of what it ultimately reports.
Your mandate spans three distinct but connected disciplines: Risk Management, Fund Reporting & Audit Leadership, and Third-Party Oversight & SME Leadership. We are looking for a Risk & Fund Reporting Manager who treats data integrity and risk discipline as the foundation that lets Moonfare scale, not as bottlenecks, and who is willing to push back on delegates and internal teams when the numbers don't add up.
You Will:
- Risk Management
- Own the Risk Management function of the AIFM: identify, measure, monitor, and manage all material risks across the fund range, covering market, liquidity, counterparty, operational, concentration, leverage, and ESG/SFDR; maintain the Risk Management Policy, risk limits, and risk register
- Monitor overcommitment ratios as a liquidity risk exposure against the limits set by the Investment Committee, conduct periodic stress tests including call coverage scenarios, escalate breaches to the Board, and act as the AIFM's technical risk voice in board deliberations, working in close coordination with the Portfolio Manager
- Provide regular risk reporting to the Managing Director and Board, with clear escalation of breaches and emerging risks, and maintain a functional reporting line to the Senior Risk Officer at Berlin HQ with direct escalation rights for material risk breaches, ensuring the Luxembourg AIFM's risk framework is aligned with, and where appropriate contributes to, Moonfare's Risk Management Framework, risk appetite, and consolidated risk reporting
- Fund Reporting & Audit Leadership
- Lead the end-to-end production of AIFMD, CSSF, investor, and fund-level regulatory reporting cycles, owning the accuracy of every submission before the Managing Director signs, and monitoring changes in Luxembourgish and European regulatory and accounting standards
- Drive the annual audit process for the Luxembourg fund range: lead the relationship with our external auditors and provide technical sign-off on accounting treatments, fee accruals, and valuation methodologies
- Perform rigorous second-level controls over our Fund Administrator: NAV shadowing, management fee and waterfall verification, distribution reconciliation, and maintenance of the Oversight Log of challenges and corrections
- Third-Party Oversight & SME Leadership
- Function as part of the Four Eyes team that provides the mandatory independent challenge to third-party providers, ensuring no material output from a delegate is accepted without independent verification, and manage the Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and oversight framework with the Fund Administrator, controlling daily data flows and resolving technical discrepancies
- Maintain and update the internal Control Framework (SOPs) for risk and financial oversight
- Partner with AI and R&D as the SME for risk and reporting, governing AI-augmented fund controlling and reporting tools built by the Fund Operations Services team and ensuring they are grounded in regulatory reality, with clear human-in-the-loop checkpoints for regulated outputs
The Next Moonfarian:
- Experience: 5+ years in Risk Management within an AIFM/ManCo, Fund Accounting Oversight, Fund Audit (Big 4), or a similar technical control role within the Luxembourg Private Equity or Real Estate sector
- Education: Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field
- Qualifications: Professionally qualified accountant (ACCA, CPA, IRE, or equivalent). Risk management certifications (FRM, PRM) are a plus
- Regulatory fluency: Working knowledge of AIFMD risk management requirements (Articles 14-16 and the equivalent expectations applied at sub-threshold), AIFMD/CSSF reporting cycles (Annex IV, SFDR disclosures), and hands-on experience with stress testing and liquidity risk frameworks
- Technical depth: Expert knowledge of Lux GAAP, IFRS, fund waterfall mechanics, fee accruals, and PE valuation principles. You can challenge a fund administrator's NAV pack line by line
- Control function ownership: You have designed or run a Risk or Oversight framework, not just operated within one, and you instinctively protect the functional separation between Risk Management and Portfolio Management in every interaction
- Vendor and delegate oversight: Proven track record holding fund administrators to high operational standards through SLAs, oversight logs, and structured governance, without paralysing the engine
- Compliant creativity: You treat regulation as a design constraint to engineer around, not a wall to hide behind. You find efficient paths to regulatory accuracy at scale and earn the trust of the Fund Operations Services team by enabling what they build, not blocking it
- AI-native mindset: You evaluate every recurring control through the lens of "should a human still be doing this?" You have hands-on experience working with engineering and AI teams to translate risk and reporting logic into automated controls in a regulated context
If you feel you do not meet all of the requirements, we still encourage you to apply!
