The Opportunity

Join the team transforming how millions of people access musculoskeletal (MSK) care by building the financial engine that powers our operations. We are seeking a mission-driven Senior Engineering Manager to lead the engineering efforts behind our billing platform. In this role, you will partner closely with Product, Finance, Commercial, and Operations to model contracts, support accurate billing cycles, and apply automation and AI to improve accuracy and efficiency. You will lead a team of 6–10 engineers, establishing high standards for code quality while staying close to the code yourself.

What You'll Accomplish

  • Build and empower a high-performing team: Manage the engineering team responsible for revenue-related billing systems. You will ensure strong performance through coaching, mentorship, and by fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture that prioritizes technical excellence and team health.

  • Drive operational excellence: Oversee planning workflows—including backlog grooming, sprint prioritization, and retrospectives—to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery. You will continuously improve system reliability, developer velocity, and code quality.

  • Bridge engineering and business strategy: Partner with finance, product, operations, and GTM teams to deeply understand revenue workflows. You will deliver systems that support accurate invoicing, compliance, and strategic business decisions, shortening month-end close cycles.

  • Lead technical innovation: Direct hands-on involvement in data modeling and service design, establishing SLOs for correctness, timeliness, and availability. You will apply automation and AI where it measurably improves reconciliation, anomaly detection, and operator efficiency.

Hinge Health Hybrid Model

We believe that remote work and in-person work have their own advantages and disadvantages, and we want to be able to leverage the best of both worlds. Employees in hybrid roles are required to be in the office 3 days per week, for the full 8 hours of a typical business day. The San Francisco office has a dog-friendly workplace program.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field

  • 10+ years of experience in the technology industry, with a focus on SaaS products and large-scale, complex systems

  • 5+ years of experience managing a team of 6+ engineers

  • 4+ years of experience building and operating secure, highly available backend systems with modern languages (e.g., Go, Java, TypeScript/Node, Python)

  • Experience building and operating financial systems at scale

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience scaling contractual variations and supporting financial systems in a SaaS or healthcare environment

  • Proficiency in PostgreSQL, understanding data models, and experience with data pipelines

  • Knowledge of healthcare billing practices and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST)

  • Proven track record of leading technical projects and process improvements in complex organizational environments

  • Effective conflict resolution and resource management skills to navigate challenging tradeoffs

  • Ability to creatively leverage AI to solve complex problems and enhance billing operations
