Position Summary
The Night Shift Pressroom Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the sheetfed pressroom during night shifts. This role ensures production schedules are achieved, quality standards are maintained, and safety protocols are strictly followed. The manager will lead and support the night shift pressroom team, serve as the primary point of contact for operational issues during off-hours, and report directly to the VP of Printing Services.
Essential Functions
- Manage and coordinate all night shift pressroom activities.
- Execute production schedules to ensure timely and accurate completion of work orders.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to press operators and helpers.
- Enforce company safety, quality, and operational standards across the shift.
- Conduct shift start-up meetings, communicate expectations, and assign tasks.
- Monitor workflow and press performance; troubleshoot and resolve issues or escalate as needed.
- Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and cleanliness of pressroom equipment; initiate repair requests when necessary.
- Review and verify production data, ensuring accurate shift reporting.
- Support employee development through training and performance feedback.
- Assist with staffing needs and ensure adequate coverage for all night shift operations.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Prior supervisory or lead experience in a pressroom environment required.
- Strong knowledge of sheetfed printing processes (UV and conventional offset).
- Familiarity with paper substrates, inks, coatings, and pressroom materials.
- Proven ability to lead teams, meet production goals, and resolve operational issues.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including mechanical troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently during off-hours and make sound decisions.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality control.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Some college or technical training preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in sheetfed pressroom operations.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience on a pressroom floor required.
Additional Requirements
- Completion of annual OSHA and safety training as applicable.
- Ability to analyze data, identify problems, and implement improvements.
- Flexibility to provide shift coverage as needed, including weekends or holidays.
