Sr. Engineering Manager – Application Platform & Trading Operations Enablement
Job Description
Overview
At Fanatics Betting & Gaming (FBG), a core division of Fanatics' mission to establish the ultimate end-to-end digital sports platform, we’re building a world where every fan’s passion is met with cutting-edge experiences. The Sr. Engineering Manager role within the OddsFactory team is a cornerstone of this vision. You’ll lead a high-impact team of Software Engineers focused on developing innovative technologies that drive our risk and trading systems.
You’ll lead two high-impact software engineering teams with distinct but complementary missions:
- Application Platform & Tooling builds and maintains shared frameworks, libraries, and tools that accelerate software delivery across OddsFactory.
- Trading Platform Operations ensures that trading systems are observably performant, production-hardened, and event-ready, especially during critical sporting moments.
Your role is to unify these capabilities under a single strategic vision: reduce friction, increase reliability, and raise the bar for engineering execution across the entire platform.
Responsibilities
- Platform Engineering & Developer Enablement
- Oversee development of reusable application-layer frameworks (e.g., messaging abstractions, observability modules, auth libraries) that serve as the foundation for all OddsFactory services.
- Deliver tooling and developer experiences that improve local development, testing, and CI/CD workflows; enabling faster, safer releases.
- Work closely with product-aligned teams to understand friction points and co-design platform solutions that drive adoption and impact.
- Maintain clear interfaces and collaborative alignment with the Cloud Platform team while owning runtime-layer abstractions and developer-facing components.
- Operational Readiness & Trading Support
- Guide your team in building operational playbooks, readiness strategies, and engineering processes that prepare the trading platform for peak traffic events.
- Partner with trading and product teams to model and mitigate operational risk, reduce response times, and ensure system reliability during key sporting events.
- Support real-time diagnostics and triage by enabling trading-critical observability, tooling, and performance tuning; without operating as support team
- Joint Responsibilities Across Both Teams
- Shape a combined roadmap that balances long-term platform investment with near-term operational readiness.
- Foster an engineering culture rooted in enablement, ownership, and operational excellence; across both developer experience and system performance.
- Create strong feedback loops between platform capabilities and their real-world usage in trading systems.
- Mentor and grow engineers and team leads across both domains, helping them navigate technical challenges and career development.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration and communication with stakeholders including Cloud Platform, Product, and Trading.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing multiple teams or domains.
- 8+ years of hands-on software development experience, preferably in a cloud-native, service-oriented environment (.NET/C# a plus).
- Proven experience building internal tools, frameworks, or platform libraries used across multiple teams.
- Demonstrated success leading teams responsible for production operations, readiness, or performance in a high-scale or event-driven domain.
- Strong cross-team collaboration skills, especially across platform, product, and operations boundaries.
- Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills; able to shift between technical depth and executive clarity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science or similar (or equivalent experience).
- Experience leading distributed or remote teams.
- Passion for sports and/or the sports betting industry.
- Background in building observability frameworks or operational automation tooling.
- Passion for delivering platform value that is both technically sound and directly impactful to users.
- Start-up or high-growth environment experience, with a bias toward rapid learning and iteration.
- Strong team collaboration mindset and passion for working in a supportive, fast-paced environment.
