We’re hiring a Senior Benefits Specialist at our Corporate Headquarters in Columbia, MO, and we’re looking for someone who’s ready to grow with us, bring energy and drive to their work, and help us build the future of construction. This position is hybrid and onsite.

Responsible for the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, etc.) and 401(k) retirement plan. This position provides excellent customer service and assists in the planning, administration and communication of our company’s benefits plans.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as primary contact for escalated or complex benefits and claims questions from employees.
  • Serve as contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators. Problem solve with the various vendors on issues needing resolution.
  • Manage the benefit administration process in the HRIS/benefits administration system including initial enrollments, qualifying life events, open enrollment, plan set up and deductions.
  • Review, reconcile and process payments for the various benefits plans.
  • Design and distribute materials and communications for benefits orientation, open enrollment and benefits updates.
  • Provide orientation, training and support to employees to ensure their understanding of benefit plans.
  • Assist with compliance of applicable government regulations such as ERISA, ACA and DOL. Ensure required reporting and fees are filed and paid timely and accurately.
  • Conduct periodic audits to ensure data and benefits information are accurate with vendors and system platforms.
  • Provide support with benefit analysis and evaluation of benefit plan efficiency, effectiveness and competitiveness.
  • Identify any opportunities to enhance benefits programs and to improve benefits administration processes.
  • Provide primary support for all 401(k) plan enrollments, training, questions and requests.
  • Conduct weekly audits of 401(k) contributions to make sure they were processed correctly prior to approving the contributions with the recordkeeper.
  • Be the point person for the annual 401(k) audit, compliance testing, plan changes and making sure the plan is being administered according to the plan document.

Skills & Qualifications

    • Project and team management/leadership skills and experience.
    • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.
    • Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
    • Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of benefit plan designs.
    • Ability to understand, evaluate and make judgment on proposals (RFPs).
    • Knowledge of benefits and retirement plans contract language.
    • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125 and Medicare.
    • Excellent communication and organization skills

    Education and Experience:

    • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
    • At least 4 years with Benefit Administration experience.
    • High School Diploma or Equivalent Education or Experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
