Overview:
You bring your expertise and know-how in scientific modeling, simulation, optimization, data science and software development to the service of our clients’ needs. You are in charge of the development of software solutions that help business leaders make informed decisions, which is achieved by leveraging dynamical simulation models of the multifaceted systems they manage. You will apply your expertise to model complex systems across various industries in areas like supply chain, logistics, finance, and asset management. This role demands a strong blend of analytical rigor, scientific knowledge, coding ability, and consulting skills.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of simulation and optimization-based analytical software solutions from initial concept to deployment and ongoing support, encompassing specification, design, implementation, testing, validation, platform integration and support, with a strong focus on the creation and application of simulation models.
- Partner with clients to deeply understand their business challenges and identify opportunities where simulation and optimization can drive significant value. This includes participating in workshops, conducting needs analysis, translating needs into well-defined modeling and analytical requirements, rapidly prototyping potential solutions and presenting results.
- Apply your strong scientific and mathematical foundation to design and implement robust simulation and optimization models that accurately represent complex systems, ensuring their technical feasibility, scientific validity, and alignment with client needs.
- Take ownership of the quality of project deliverables, including specifications, models, code, and documentation, and proactively identify and escalate potential risks to project timelines or the successful adoption of developed solutions.
- Ensure the seamless integration of developed solutions with the Cosmo Tech platform and address any discrepancies between client expectations and platform capabilities.
- Contribute to the development of internal modeling and artificial intelligence tools, and explore the integration of machine learning with simulation methodologies.
- Participate in the technical training of clients and partners on modeling concepts and Cosmo Tech solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Customer Success, Product Management, and Engineering teams to ensure seamless project delivery, address client needs effectively, and contribute to the evolution of Cosmo Tech products.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD from a selective university or engineering school in natural or applied sciences (in particular physics, applied mathematics or operational research).
- Knowledge of the different ways of modeling and simulating the dynamics of a system, experience with agent-based simulation or discrete-event simulation preferred.
- Mastery of major optimization techniques (black-box optimization, evolutionary algorithms, mixed-integer linear programming, constrained programming,…).
- Solid foundations in statistics and probability (in particular statistical modeling and Monte Carlo methods) as well as machine learning. Understanding of model validation methodology, calibration methods, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills. Ability to master new subjects quickly, to read scientific papers and implement their methods within a constrained time frame.
- Proficiency in Python and its most common data science and optimization libraries (NumPy, SciPy, pandas, scikit-learn, jupyter environment,…).
- Basic programming experience with C++ (can be substituted with the knowledge of other programming languages, such as Java), knowledge of object-oriented programming.
- Familiarity with software development tools (linux/debian operating system, git, automated tests, docker, databases).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) is a plus.
- Experience in a client-facing environment delivering consulting services, for example in data science.
- Proven ability to gather and clarify client requirements, and translate them into structured technical specifications.
- Able to articulate technical topics clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and prioritizing competing business and technical constraints in complex projects.
- Team player with a proactive mindset and ownership mentality.
