Job Description

The Role

As our value grows, so does our need for extraordinary people. At Checkout.com, we are looking for an Interim Content Design Manager to lead our talented Content Design team for a 12-month maternity cover.

You will be responsible for a team of four Content Designers, ensuring they continue to build the next generation of financial products and online payment solutions through human-centered, empathetic, and intuitive design. As a manager, you aren't just a guardian of quality, you are a coach, a strategic partner to Product and Engineering, and always have an eye on how we can evolve our craft.

We are looking for a leader who is not only a seasoned expert in Content Design but someone who is genuinely excited by the frontier of AI and automation. You should be able to demonstrate how you’ve used these technologies to sharpen team processes, scale impact, or improve the user experience.

The Team

You’ll lead a dedicated squad of four Content Designers within our broader Product Design function. Our wider department is more than 30 people across Product Design, UX Research, Content Design and Technical Documentation.

Hybrid Working Model: All of our offices globally operate on a 3-day per week onsite model (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). We believe in the power of spontaneous collaboration and building global solutions together in the same space. During your days at the office, we offer amazing snacks, breakfast, and lunch options to keep the team fueled.

About You

With your strong leadership experience, you excel at empowering content designers to do their best work. You understand that great management is about removing roadblocks, supporting and coaching high-potential talent, and fostering a culture of design excellence. You are a systems thinker who can see the big picture, but you also possess a world-class CD portfolio that proves you know what "good" looks like.

  • A proven leader: You have experience managing Content Designers, helping them navigate their career goals while delivering high-quality, measurable results.

  • AI enthusiast: You have a keen interest in AI and automation, with tangible examples of how you have applied these tools to improve workflows or product outcomes.

  • Strategic thinker: You can balance business urgency with the need for team stability and long-term skill development.

  • Empathetic coach: You lead through inspiration rather than prescription, building deep trust with your reports and cross-functional peers.

  • Accountable operator: You take ownership of delivery, even when it spans beyond your immediate discipline, and you make informed decisions when managing design debt.

  • Effective communicator: You can articulate team goals clearly to stakeholders, ensuring that Content Design is a required contributor to our product strategy.

We’d like to see

  • Management experience: Proven track record of leading, coaching, and developing content designers in a fast-paced environment.

  • A strong portfolio: A body of work that demonstrates your expertise in UX writing, content strategy and systems thinking.

  • AI implementation: Real-world examples of how you’ve integrated AI or automation into team processes or product experiences.

  • SaaS or fintech background: Experience in online payments, B2B ecosystems, or complex Software-as-a-Service environments is highly preferred.

  • Advocacy: Experience promoting the value of Content Design to senior stakeholders and cross-functional partners.

  • Global content strategy: Experience in designing for a global audience, with a deep understanding of how to create "localisation-ready" source content.

  • Process excellence: You are highly process-driven, with a proven ability to identify bottlenecks and implement new opportunities for efficiency.
