In this role, you have the opportunity to
Develop and execute the strategy for our new in-house UPI Switch. You will be responsible for building and managing this highly complex, critical payments product independently with limited manager support
Responsibilities will include
Functional Expertise & UPI Architecture
- Define and execute the product strategy and roadmap in alignment with company vision and objectives.
- Spearhead the transition to an in-house UPI Switch, ensuring high availability, scalability, and adherence to all NPCI specifications and compliance mandates.
- Leverage AI to optimize intelligent payment routing algorithms, enhance real-time fraud detection mechanisms, and improve overall transaction success rates.
- Identify and solve problems at the functional level while driving process improvements for the product.
- Ensure successful product launches and high adoption rates for new payment routing capabilities.
Problem Solving
- Display a customer-centric mindset, actively working to understand problems and develop innovative technical solutions.
- Track product performance using relevant KPIs, analyzing usage and transaction data (utilizing predictive analytics) to drive product improvements and minimize failure rates.
- Conduct market and competitive analysis to identify opportunities for growth and differentiation.
- Develop and implement go-to-market strategies, working with all departments for seamless execution.
Interaction:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, data science, design, operations, marketing, and sales, to guide products from conception to launch.
- Manage internal stakeholder relationships and maintain a strong awareness of the overall business context.
- Act as the primary product liaison with external partners, including NPCI, sponsor banks, and other regulatory or financial institutions, ensuring seamless switch integration, compliance, and swift resolution of network-level issues.
- Demonstrate excellent presentation and communication skills
- Act as a mentor for APMs and other Product Managers on the team.

- Product Leadership: Develop and execute the strategy for this highly complex, mission-critical product independently, with limited manager support, acting as the cornerstone of our payment ecosystem.
- Take ownership of BharatPe’s core UPI Switch infrastructure, directly impacting millions of daily transactions across our vast network of merchants and consumers.
- Drive critical business outcomes by improving SR, ensuring 99.99% system uptime, and optimizing payment processing costs through intelligent, AI driven routing
Challenges & Decisions
- Strong analytical application - specifically demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills with complex data.
- Navigating complex technical challenges inherent in building a highly available, high-TPS UPI Switch from the ground up.
- Demonstrating deep technical know-how to make critical architectural decisions regarding NPCI protocols, bank API integrations, and AI driven load balancing.
- Exercising robust stakeholder management to seamlessly align internal engineering teams with external regulatory bodies like NPCI and sponsor banks during critical downtimes or compliance audits.
Qualification & Experience (type & industry)
- BE/B.Tech or equivalent Degree. MBA is good to have
- 5-8 Yrs of experience
- At least 5 years of experience in product management in Fintech Space
- Deep understanding of financial systems and payment platforms, with specific hands-on experience building, scaling, or managing a UPI Switch or core payment gateway infrastructure.
Skills & know-how
- UPI & Payments Domain: Deep knowledge of core UPI architecture (UPI 1.0/2.0, UPI Lite, Credit on UPI), NPCI technical specifications, clearing/settlement cycles, and handling complex payment states (timeouts etc).
- AI & Application: Practical experience leveraging AI/ML for predictive smart routing, real-time fraud/anomaly detection, and automated load balancing.
- Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, queuing mechanisms (like Kafka), and designing for high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems.
- Product Execution: Proficient in Agile methodologies, writing detailed API - focused PRDs, and leading parallel tracks across engineering, compliance, and banking operations.
- Data-Driven Problem Solving: Strong capability to analyze complex transactional data and network metrics to identify bottlenecks, optimize routing algorithms, and maximize SR
