About The Role: Principal Cloud test – Network & Security
As a Principal Engineer, you will operate beyond individual features—owning cross-cutting quality initiatives, shaping testing frameworks, influencing design decisions early, working with customer support teams to enhance the test strategies and setting the bar for testing excellence across multiple teams. Your work will directly impact release velocity, customer trust, and system resilience across multi-cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive end-to-end test strategy and quality architecture for cloud networking and security platforms across functional, performance, scale, resiliency, and security testing, aligned with shift-left practices, the test pyramid, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Act as the technical authority for complex networking, security, and scale challenges, influencing product and system design through early collaboration with architects and senior engineers.
- Architect, automate, and oversee end-to-end, performance, stress, and scale testing frameworks for distributed cloud systems, driving stable, high-coverage automation and flakiness reduction.
- Design, validate, and automate large-scale performance, stress, and resiliency tests across networking protocols, control planes, and data planes.
- Provide deep technical leadership in testing cloud networking and security technologies including BGP, TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, routing, overlays, firewalls, IDS/IPS, SSL/TLS, IPsec, PKI, and proxy architectures.
- Troubleshoot and root-cause complex, multi-layered production and customer-reported issues using logs, metrics, packet captures, and system behavior across multi-cloud and containerized environments.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, SRE, and Platform teams to improve reliability, scalability, performance, operability, guide release readiness, risk assessments, and quality sign-offs, and drive QA process, tooling, and infrastructure improvements.
- Mentor and grow senior engineers, provide technical direction across multiple teams, contribute to hiring and roadmap planning, and represent QA in org-wide design reviews, technical forums, and interviews.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred), with 12–15 years of experience in networking and security-focused QA, test engineering, or systems testing roles.
- Proven experience leading large-scale, complex testing initiatives across multiple teams or products, driving end-to-end ownership and execution.
- Deep expertise in networking and cloud networking protocols including BGP, TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, routing, and overlays.
- Strong hands-on experience testing network security platforms and technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, threat detection, policy enforcement, SSL/TLS, IPsec, PKI, and forward/reverse proxy architectures.
- Extensive experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, and/or OCI) and cloud-native/containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Advanced experience in performance, scale, stress, and resiliency testing of distributed systems, including the ability to design, automate, and execute large-scale scenarios across control planes and data planes.
- Expert-level proficiency in Linux environments, Python/Shell automation, and network performance tools such as iperf, ethr, Ixia, or equivalent, including CI/CD-driven test validations.
- Strong analytical, system-level troubleshooting, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to work independently, influence senior stakeholders, and mentor and technically lead engineers across teams.
- Strong hands-on experience with security protocols and technologies, including SSL/TLS, IPsec, PKI, and forward and reverse proxy architectures.
- Solid understanding of containerized and cloud-native environments, with hands-on experience using Docker and Kubernetes for deployment, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience in automating large-scale and performance test scenarios, including traffic generation, workload modeling, and repeatable scale validations in CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to design and execute automated performance, stress, and resiliency tests for distributed systems running in containerized and multi-cloud environments.
