About Motorq
Motorq is the leading connected vehicle intelligence platform, processing over 5 million trip miles and 500 million data points per day. We aggregate data directly from automotive OEM APIs — no hardware required — and deliver it as structured insights and automated workflows to fleet operators, lenders, rental companies, and automotive partners.
Headquartered in the SF Bay Area with offices in Chennai, Bengaluru, and Seattle, Motorq has raised a $40M+ Series B and is growing rapidly across new geographies and use cases. We're part of the Stanford StartX community and deeply partnered with leading automotive OEMs including GM, Ford, Toyota, Stellantis, Volkswagen, Volvo, Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Rivian.
The Role
Motorq's go-to-market success depends in large part on our ability to show — not just tell — what connected vehicle intelligence can do. The Solution Director leads the team that makes that happen.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for building and managing Motorq's Forward Deployed Engineering team and owning the presales motion end to end. The Solution Director combines the technical fluency to understand Motorq's platform deeply with the business acumen to frame its value in terms that resonate with fleet operators, technology buyers, and executive stakeholders alike.
The Solution Director is a player-coach: you will lead a growing team of Forward Deployed Engineers, set the standard for how Motorq shows up in the field, and personally engage in the most strategic deals and customer relationships. You bring prior consulting experience and know how to structure a complex problem, command a room, and translate technical capability into business impact — whether that's in a boardroom, a hands-on workshop, or a prototype review with a customer's engineering team.
This role sits at the intersection of sales, product, and engineering — and the Solution Director is expected to influence all three.

What You'll Do
- Lead, manage, and develop Motorq's Forward Deployed Engineering team — setting expectations, coaching performance, allocating coverage across accounts and deals, and hiring as the team grows.
- Own the presales technical motion — from discovery and demo strategy through proof-of-concept design, workshop facilitation, and proposal support — ensuring every customer engagement reflects Motorq at its best.
- Personally engage in strategic deals and top-tier customer relationships, stepping in as the senior technical and business voice when the stakes are highest.
- Build and continuously improve the presales playbook — demo environments, workshop formats, prototype templates, and ROI frameworks — that the FDE team uses across the sales cycle.
- Collaborate closely with the VP of Sales and Strategic Customer Executive team to align presales resources with pipeline priorities and ensure seamless handoffs from pre- to post-sale.
- Evangelize Motorq's full platform — including AI-powered workflows, agentic capabilities, APIs, and data streams — to both technical and executive audiences, making complex technology feel accessible and compelling.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to feed field intelligence into the roadmap — the Solution Director is one of the most important voices on what customers need and how the product is landing in the market.
- Develop the team's capability in AI and agentic product demonstrations, ensuring the FDE team can credibly and compellingly showcase Motorq's evolving AI product layer.
- Represent Motorq at industry events, conferences, and partner engagements — building external credibility and expanding Motorq's presence in the connected vehicle and fleet technology ecosystem.
- A leader and a practitioner — you invest in the growth of your team and hold them to a high bar, and you're equally effective when you need to step in and do the work yourself.
- Business-first in your thinking — you approach every customer engagement by understanding the business problem before reaching for a technical solution, and you frame Motorq's value in outcomes, not features.
- Technically credible — you can hold a rigorous conversation with a customer's engineering team, interrogate a data model, and guide an FDE through a complex prototype challenge without needing to script every answer.
- A structured communicator — your consulting background shows in how you organize ideas, structure a presentation, and move a room from confusion to clarity.
- A builder — you are energized by creating the systems, tools, and culture that make a team perform at a high level, not just managing what already exists.
- Deeply curious about AI — you follow the evolution of agentic systems and LLM-powered applications closely and bring that curiosity into how you think about Motorq's product direction.
- 7+ years of experience in presales, solutions engineering, technical consulting, or forward deployed engineering roles, including at least 2 years in a people management capacity.
- Prior experience at a top-tier management consulting firm or enterprise technology consulting practice is strongly preferred.
- Track record of building and leading high-performing technical presales or solutions teams in a B2B SaaS or data platform environment.
- Background in fleet management, telematics, automotive software, mobility, or connected vehicle platforms is a strong plus.
- Technical fluency across APIs, data platforms, SQL, and scripting (Python or similar) — enough to guide the FDE team through complex technical challenges and review their work.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts — LLMs, agentic workflows, RAG, evaluation frameworks — and the ability to demonstrate AI-powered capabilities credibly to diverse audiences.
- Outstanding communication and executive presence — equally effective presenting to a C-suite audience and facilitating a hands-on technical workshop.
- Willingness to travel regularly to customer sites, industry events, and team meetings across the US.
- Full-time role, remote-first.
- Hybrid if based in the SF Bay Area.
- Regular travel expected — approximately 8–10 business days per month to customer sites, industry events, and the SF Bay Area.
- Base salary: $160,000–$220,000 per year.
- Performance bonus of up to 15% based on individual and company performance.
- Equity participation.
- Full benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid parental leave.
